My name is Brad Dumas and I am from Berkley, MA. I recently graduated from Framingham State College with a bachelor’s degree in Business. I have been around woodwork since I was born. My father worked at and now owns a small specialty millwork company in Berkley. Ever since I can remember my dad has been working late doing finish carpentry work on houses. As far as I am concerned he is a master carpenter. At his company there is a small workshop that can pump out some serious work for a two person shop. I worked at the store since I was 14 years old which is about 8 years now. Though I worked there I didn’t really have a passion for what I was doing. It was back in the summer of 2005 where I found my love of woodwork. An unfortunate event in the shop involving the table saw, and the hand of one of the employees left an opening in the far end and orders piling up. My father asked me if I wanted to go into the shop and try doing some millwork. I was nervous because I had never really used power tools, but I decided to give it a shot. I still remember the first thing that I did in the shop. I had to make custom fluted casing out of douglas fir for an 8’ door, and then apply it. After my first cut into that fresh piece of wood, I knew that this was for me. After a few summers spent in the shop, I eventually got bored doing the same millwork procedures day in and day out. I decided that I wanted to try making some of my own stuff. My first experiment was with cribbage boards which turned out quite nicely really. Eventually I expanded to cutting boards, jewelry boxes, etc. Eventually my interest was sparked by woodturning, and I that is when I started making pens, bottle stoppers, etc. Every time I walk into my shop, I try my hardest to do better than the last time I was in there, and I will continue to strive to do high quality work.
